KEN FRIESEN, VICE PRESIDENT OPERATIONS Having functioned as General Manager and Regional Director of Operations for American Liberty since joining the firm in 1974, Mr. Friesen uses his operations and hotel development background to bring sound business practices to influence the operating results for various hotel projects throughout ALH's portfolio. He began his hotel general management career with American Liberty at a Sheraton hotel in Dallas, later transferring to Houston to operate various full service hotels for the company in Texas, including the 800 room Sheraton Astrodome Hotel and Convention Center. His current assignment is directing the pre-opening development and general management responsibilities for the Cypress Bend Golf Resort & Conference Center near Many, Louisiana, and he is involved with all operational elements related to installing a new professional management team prior to the opening of the Conference Center in late 1999. His additional responsibilities include operational overview of other regional properties under ALH management, all benefiting from his seasoned perspective on sales and marketing, financial budgeting and planning, and investment analysis. In addition to his operations responsibilities, he has also coordinated numerous capital improvement programs including the $28 million repositioning of the Sheraton Astrodome Hotel complex directly across the street from the Houston Astrodome. While directing hotel operations for American Liberty over the past 25 years, Mr. Friesen has also served two terms as liaison for Sheraton franchisees as Regional Chairman of Sheraton’s International Council and also served as President of the Texas Ramada Managers Association. He was awarded the Certified Hotel Administrator accreditation by the American Hotel and Motel Association in 1993, attended the University of Tulsa and holds a Business Management degree from LeTourneau University |
